In December 2023, I had a genius idea. I had decided to embark on a No Buy Year, but before I started, I wanted to ensure that I didn’t get bored of all my clothing. I also wanted to make sure that I was not overwhelmed by the volume of clothing. I came up with a plan: I divided all my clothes into four seasonal categories and packed away ¾ of my wardrobe into three storage bags, one for each season. (photo below). This way, I was left with only the clothes suitable for the current season.
I stowed the bags away, effectively hiding my “old” clothes from sight. I knew that when I rotated my wardrobe, I would be pleasantly surprised by the pieces I had forgotten about.
Next month is the start of a new season and I’m kicking off my decluttering process. I’ll be meticulously going through my wardrobe, asking myself three crucial questions:
- Do I genuinely enjoy wearing this piece of clothing?
- Does it fit me well and feel comfortable?
- Is it still in good condition?
These questions will guide me in deciding what to keep and what to let go. I am determined to curate a wardrobe filled with pieces that make me feel confident and comfortable.
Wearing an outfit that makes me feel self-conscious and uncomfortable is a feeling I want to avoid at all costs.
As I assess my current season’s wardrobe, I realize I have far too many clothes! (a ‘not so genius idea’ of mine to overbuy)
It’s time to pare down my wardrobe and keep only the pieces that truly spark joy.
