Finding My Simple Life

My Simple Review – Girls That Invest by Simran Kaur

This book: Girls That Invest was published in 2022, and I absolutely loved that it was a personal finance book written by a woman!

If this book were a wine, I would describe it as a quaff. It was an easy read (for me, at least). I enjoyed Simran’s voice and how she explained investing in a simple and clear way.

The book starts by discussing why to become an investor (such as beating inflation, harnessing compound interest, achieving financial freedom, etc.). Then, she talks about misconceptions that hold people back from investing.

Throughout the book, there were actionable steps and questions, which I liked because they were thought-provoking and interactive.

Quote: “When you are financially independent and financially literate, you are more empowered and in a better position to make the calls about your life.”

I enjoyed the section on the first 5 bricks:

  • Know what’s coming in and going out
  • Tackle high-interest debt
  • Automate your money
  • Make a rainy day fund
  • Sort out your retirement account

The next section was all about the stock market. What I really liked were the analogies and the simple explanations. I also enjoyed the different types of investors section.

It ended with a really nice summary of putting it all together with seven steps.

Overall, this book: Girls That Invest was a fun read.
