“I almost bought a dress tonight,” I whisper while covering my face. I put the sale dress in my online shopping cart. I got to the payment section when I took one very deep breath and realized that there was no way that I was going to buy that cute black mid-dress (even if it was 30% off). The goals for my No Buy Year are more important to me than just a dress. Looking can lead to wanting. Wanting can lead to buying, and I even wrote a blog post on this topic. I should have had better resistance but I am proud of not buying anything!
I have lasted four months into my No Buy Year and I am still enjoying it. Why, you may ask? Why are you enjoying not buying anything for a whole year? Here are some of my reasons:
- I am enjoying not having to worry about too much clutter.
- I am loving the impact on our savings from the healthier bank balance.
- I am enjoying the satisfaction of contentment from the stuff I already own.
- Clothes swaps are really fun!
- I am loving learning what clothes I love to wear. I actually wrote out a wardrobe plan for January 2025.
- I am enjoying not thinking about buying things, except tonight. Instead, I have been reading more books. Reading is something that I love to do, so that brings me happiness.
The No Buy Year is definitely challenging but so worthwhile.
